A meeting with Lili Haber, Chairwoman of the Association of the People of Krakow in Israel (Związek Krakowian w Izraelu) took place yesterday, on 18th March 2024 at 6 p.m. at the Kupa Synagogue. A march of remembrance took place today, 17th March. The walk began at noon from Plac Bohaterów Getta and continued to the area of the former KL Plaszow. The annual march of remembrance is organised on the anniversary of the Krakow ghetto liquidation in Podgorze. Local residents, tourists and numerous invited guests participated in the march. The Jewish Religious Community in Krakow was represented by Helena Jakubowicz, Chairwoman of the Board, Tadeusz Jakubowicz, Vice-Chairman of the Board and Boaz Gadka, rabbi of the Jewish Religious Community as well as by other members of the Community. We would like to thank everyone who was with us on that special day.

Memorial activities which mark the 80th anniversary of the liquidation of the Krakow ghetto will take place on 12th March 2023 (Sunday) at 12:00 p.m. at Plac Bohaterów Getta. The official part will include the following events: reading the survivors’ memoirs, a walk to Lwowska street – Kaddish and laying flowers at the remains of the ghetto wall, a march through the following streets: Lwowska, Limanowskiego, Wielicka, Jerozolimska and Heltmana up to the monument of murdered Jews at the former KL Plaszow camp, a ceremony at the monument: prayers, reading the survivors’ memoirs, laying flowers and stones. Douglas Emhoff, husband of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and the U.S. special envoy to monitor and combat anti-Semitism as well as to promote the Holocaust awareness, visited the Remuh Synagogue on 29th January 2023. During the visit, Douglas Emhoff met with the President and Vice President of the Jewish Religious Community in Krakow. . During the meeting were also present the United States Ambassador to Poland, Mark Brzezinski as well as Consul General, Erin Nickerson. Douglas Emhoff was impressed by his visit to Poland. At the beginning of September 2022, Erin Nickerson, the US Consul General in Krakow, paid a visit at the headquarters of the Jewish Religious Community in Krakow. Nickerson, who has been holding her position since August 2022, had a long conversation with the Community Vice-Chairman, Tadeusz Jakubowicz and Adam Klimek, the representative of the Krakow branch of Social and Cultural Association of Jews in Poland. Mrs Nickerson also vitisted Krakow’s most important synagogues. The Holocaust Victims Memorial Square located at the corner of Tymowskiego, Kazimierza Wielkiego and Berka Joselwicza streets, was opened on 28th August 2022 in Nowy Sącz. It commemorates approximately 12,000 Jews from Nowy Sącz who were murdered by the Germans. The victims’ names have been engraved on the walls of the monumental building which resembles the museum in Bełżec. Sara Weinfeld Melzer, one of very few people who managed to survive the ghetto liquidation, as well as numerous descendants of the Nowy Sącz Jews, were present at the ceremony.
